Winter Shelter is a program that typically runs October through March, though these dates vary by funding availability. This is a 10-bed shelter located in Brookings, Oregon.
Applications are currently closed for 2023-24.
A Warming Center, also known as a severe weather warming center, is a type of temporary, as-needed shelter for people living outside during periods of time where the weather is predicted to show certain conditions. These conditions are usually set by local government authorities and services are carried out by local Community Based Organizations, such as a Nonprofit Organization. While there are currently no established plans within each of the three municipalities in Curry County, or at the county level itself, there is an ongoing effort by Brookings CORE Response and other local agencies to see this partnership and support at the local government level so that, when state and federal agencies provide the opportunity and resources during a disaster, we can benefit from that at the local level.
